A connector is an integration that lets an AI assistant use a service, usually through that service's API or an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so you ask the assistant and it does the work. Most of Meta's connector programs are about ads, customer chat or developers, not building a website. What a connector is, in plain terms

An AI assistant on its own can answer questions and write text. A connector gives it a way to act on a specific service: read data, make changes, or both. The service decides which actions exist, and the assistant calls them when you ask.

Meta describes its version this way: Meta AI Connectors let a company connect its service to Meta AI so people can use it without leaving the conversation. The company's API becomes tools Meta AI can call, and the company defines the actions (Meta for Developers FAQ). Meta's developer page adds that a connector can be set up through guided UI or MCP onboarding (Meta AI Connectors).

Three things people mix up

The word "connector" covers several different things. Keeping them apart clears up most of the confusion.

Meta AI Connectors. Meta's program for connecting a service to Meta AI. Meta lists it as available in developer preview, and it is aimed at the companies that own the service (Meta for Developers). Meta's Help Center also uses "Connectors" for the links between its Muse agent and apps from Meta or third parties (Meta Help Center).
Meta Business Agent and its Platform. A different product, about serving your customers. The Platform lets businesses build and deploy AI agents across WhatsApp and other Meta apps, with pre-built connectors to reference data such as CRM or order management (Meta Business Agent Platform). Meta positions its APIs and custom integrations for medium and large businesses (Meta). It does not work on your website.
Third-party connectors. Connectors built by companies other than Meta, which work with AI assistants. Their scope, quality and terms vary, so each one needs its own check.

What is available today

Meta's connector landscape is moving, and the pieces are at different stages.

Meta AI Connectors for services: listed as available in developer preview, so this is for developers building and testing connectors, not a button a small business clicks (Meta AI Connectors).
Meta AI for your business: Meta says you can connect Instagram and Facebook business and ad information, plus Google Workspace, to Meta AI. It also says the Meta AI and Vibes apps and websites are not yet available everywhere, and some features may vary by area (Meta Help Center).
Muse for Small Business: trade coverage describes connections to tools such as Canva, Shopify, Klaviyo, Slack, Stripe and QuickBooks (SMK).
Meta ads AI connectors: a trade report describes an open beta that removes the need for developer credentials or coding (Marketing-Interactive).
